Welcome Our New Principal

May 27, 2021

Dr. Peterson started her educational career with Saint Matthew’s School as a classroom teacher in 2004 through 2007.  Over the years she furthered her education and experience in Florida in the areas of Social Studies, Digital Learning, and online learning while working as a classroom teacher, an Assistant Principal or as a Principal . Additionally, she obtained a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Education working full-time.  She attributes her love of education to the formation she had received from Catholic Schools she attended in grades 1st – 12th.

Dr. Peterson stated, “Education is not just about the academics.  It is about framing the future of our communities through the education of the whole child and I do not believe that one should separate Christian values from academics.”  Dr. Peterson further stated, “I have been dedicated to the field of education for over twenty years, 19 in Florida and 3 in Montana. I have worked with students in all grade levels, K -12, in a variety of positions. I have been a Social Studies teacher in both regular education and special education classrooms and was a 2nd/3rd grade teacher. Additionally, I served in several administrative roles that included Assistant Principal of McInnis Elementary School, Director of Digital Learning, Assessment and Accountability and Principal of Volusia Online Learning. I am thrilled to bring my educational experience to St. Matthew’s and to work with you as a partner in education and faith formation to ensure your child’s success throughout their lives. ‘

Dr. Peterson stated, “On a personal note, my husband Bryan and I have three children.  I have a large family with three brothers and a sister, and I was fortunate enough to have been able to attend 12 years of Catholic school in Orlando. I have earned three degrees from the University of Central Florida finishing my Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 2018.”

Dr. Peterson feels that, “As parents, you are the primary educators of your child(ren), thus, partnering with a school that holds similar values as yours is vitally important. The following factors are very important to me and I hope they are important to you:

  • A school environment – a community that is rooted in the Catholic faith and moral values.
  • A school community where your child is treated as an individual, encouraged to develop his/her gifts, and challenged intellectually.
  • A school community where your child knows he/she is loved, cared for and nurtured, and valued.

I view education as a life-long process and expect to learn much about St. Matthew’s in the coming years. Most importantly, I bring a student-centered focus to all my school related decisions. I am excited to unite my experience, my Catholic identity, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students. Relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of any institution and I will work tirelessly to build positive relationships with all stakeholders. St. Matthew’s is an amazing community and the love and support that I have already experienced is precisely why I am dedicated to making our school the best school for all our children. Now more than ever I pray that we embrace one another and continue to grow in our love for our school and grow in our faith.  I look forward to meeting you soon!”

Saint Matthew School looks forward to welcoming you back to the Valley and to where it all started for you!
